What can we do to avoid those nasty bacteria spreading and making us sick? We might not be able to avoid the bacteria completely but there are things we can do to minimize the risk. Good hand hygiene is vital when it comes to limiting the spread of bacteria.

Good hand hygiene – how?

Having a good hand hygiene goes a long way when it comes to fighting bacteria spreading. But how do you wash your hands properly? We have a recipe for you:

• Rinse your hands in lukewarm water and distribute the soap evenly – remember your wrists as well
• Rub your palms so that the soap is lathered up and the palms get clean
• Remember also to merge your fingers, so you get clean between them
• Wash palm to back on both hands and both of your thumbs
• Finally, you wash your finger tips and nails
• Rinse thoroughly and dry your hands

Here’s the tricky part – what do you do when you’re finished? Do you just close the faucet with your clean hands and risk getting new bacteria on them? Maybe, but you have a few options:

• In public toilets, you often use paper towels to dry your hands – you can use the paper towel to close the faucet with before disposing it
• At home, you could use the towel the same way
