WATER COMPETENCE – Materials used in Oras products

Written by Oras | 04.06.2019

With our products we want to ensure that the water we use is safe and not impaired by chemical substances. As a result, Oras products do not contain any materials classified as hazardous. Moreover, Oras is committed to use materials that comply with quality regulations and satisfy the evaluation criteria of all our market areas.

Since May 2016, Oras has finished with the necessary material changes to ensure that all Oras products will be manufactured according to the 4MS Common Composition List, where metallic materials suitable for drinking water use are listed for EU countries.

 Materials used in Oras faucets

  • At Oras Group we use a multitude of materials depending on
  • purpose of usage
  • design of the product
  • technical and legal requirements
  • functionality

In evaluation of the requirements the best possible material is chosen to reach maximum performance. Materials used broadly within our products are:

  • DZR brass
  • Zinc
  • Polymer
  • Composite
  • Glass
  • Ceramic

DZR BRASS

The pressurized faucet parts are always made of corrosion and dezincification resistant (DZR) brass. This is to ensure to ensure long lifecycle for the products. Brass is used mainly in faucet bodies and valve structures. The main benefits of the material are that is easy to form and to shape, resistant against corrosion, and durable.

ZINC

Zinc is a material that is mainly used in chrome plated outer bodies and handles. Zink is another traditional material for casted components due its easy forming.

At Oras Group, Zinc is mainly used in chrome plated outer bodies and handles of the faucets.

POLYMER

Oras Group has over 40 years of experience in polymer production and there are currently 30 different polymer materials in use. Polymer is used in inner bodies, cartridges and valves as well as aerators and pipes. Polymers are hygienic materials suitable for high accuracy components.

COMPOSITE

Plastic and composite offer greater comfort especially in bath and shower faucets. One of the advantages is that it prevents the faucet surface from heating up. Special high-quality technical plastics are selected with utmost care and our products are long lasting and safe to use in a wide range of applications. The selected composite materials are extremely durable, and chrome plated composite parts actually have the same durability of the surface as chrome plated brass and zinc parts. Composite is mainly used in chrome plated parts such as outer bodies and covers, levers and aerators.

The plastic and composite solutions used at Oras Group factories are extremely durable.

CERAMIC

Ceramic discs used in the Oras cartridge are made of the third hardest substance in the world – aluminum oxide. Only diamond and silicon carbide are harder.

GLASS

Glass is somewhat more rarely used material than above mentioned materials, and it is used in products where high quality, precision and hygiene is particularly sought after. One example of product ranges, where glass is used, is our Oras Esteta shower systems.

All materials used in Oras Group factories have been carefully tested and qualified for the used purposes. Within our Group we use valuable materials and innovative technologies to create solutions with added value for our customers. Therefore, our teams continuously improve technology competences and investigates future-orientated materials that allows to replace conventional materials with more capable ones.
