With the new Oras Optima Style, an archetype that harmonizes with every bathroom style and remains current for decades is making its way into modern bathrooms: The newly defined line impresses with a purist and timelessly impressive appearance. The hybrid model offers a new, more convenient and sustainable way to use and experience water.

Oras Optima Style will be available with both top and side pin lever options and in different sizes and versions: as a standard model, it is compatible with almost all common washbasin sizes and shapes, while the high variant is particularly suitable for prestigious environments.

A special highlight is the Oras Optima Style Hybrid, a 2-in-1 faucet with both manual and touchless operation. Water can be activated either via the side sensor or the side lever. Thus, it offers more freedom in use: the user can choose to wash hands with the touchless function, without touching the lever – or to open the faucet traditionally from the lever. The hybrid offers more convenience and flexibility in use and is also a sustainable choice: less water and energy are being consumed when using the touchless function. Via the free Oras app, settings such as water flow time, sensor distance or the rinsing mode can be individually configured via Bluetooth® technology; the total consumption or the battery status can also be called up.

Demand for touchless faucets is increasing remarkably in both private and public spaces

The increasing megatrends around sustainability and health and safety, accelerated by the COVID-19, are setting higher standards for solutions that improve our living environments. They are setting higher standards also for the way we use and interact with water, and the type of faucets and sanitary fittings we choose to use.

According to a consumer survey*, a clear majority of almost 85% of people are expecting to have a touchless faucet in the public premises they visit. This sets high demands for decision-makers to ensure people have safe and hygienic access to water in all spaces. According to the same consumer survey, almost half of the respondents would be interested in having a touchless faucet at their homes.

This is a clear direction Oras can see in their daily business as well: automatic and touchless faucets are becoming a prerequisite in public places, and now more and more people are also having them installed in their homes. The sales of touchless faucets and other SMART products have increased remarkably during the past times.

Touchless faucets are becoming popular in both private homes and in public spaces.

“There are clear reasons for this direction: people are more conscious and aware of the possibilities and solutions that can make their living and working environments safer, healthier and more sustainable. Touchless faucets are a great example of one single device that can improve hygiene remarkably, simultaneously saving water and energy,” says Kasper Thomsen, Product Category Manager for Public and Health & Care at Oras Group and continues: “Installing touchless faucets for example to a school or a kindergarten is probably one of the best and the simplest and concrete ways to reduce diseases from spreading.”

Indeed, to reduce the spread of germs, many facilities throughout Europe have switched to smart faucets. By eliminating the need to touch the faucet, smart faucets can prevent bacteria from spreading. Touchless faucets are also an effective solution against the spread of legionella: Using automatic control settings, faucets can be set to flush at regular intervals. This limits water from stagnating in the pipes and legionella bacteria from growing in them. In addition to hygiene, many public and semi-public places like shopping centers and offices, are looking for controllability and durability of their premises. Via the integrated Bluetooth® connection, the maintenance of the touchless faucets is extremely easy.

Oras Group has been producing touchless faucets for over 35 years and is the market leader in electronic solutions. It uses its own unique and patented PSD technology, meaning the sensor is equipped with two sensors – a transmitter and a receiver, which gives a much more accurate function of the faucet – allowing the faucet to open and close the water flow when needed. “This technology ensures a much better reliability and handling of reflections from the surrounding environment and surfaces, than a standard IR sensor,” says Kasper Thomsen.

There are still many myths around touchless faucets, like the touchless faucets are only for public spaces or that the temperature cannot be controlled. This is not the case, however: ”As more and more people have experience with smart faucets, they become inspired to install them in their homes too. There’s a wide range of nice designs, with a temperature lever too, that are easy to install and perfect for home use. We see the private home demand growing exponentially,” explains Kasper Thomsen and laughs: ”And if we would ask from the children, who are the future, after all, they would only go for automatic faucets!”

Oras has also great plans for the future: developing SMART products and services is at the very core of the company’s strategy. Easy, yet sustainable – Oras is developing faucet and shower technology that supports sustainable development

Oras enhances faucets and showers with technology that most efficiently promotes sustainable development. The company’s product development aims to water and energy saving, as well as user-friendly products.

Nowadays, digitalization has been extended to consumer electronics. Electric toothbrushes start to blink when the user has brushed their teeth for two minutes. Sports watches and walking meters indicate when ten thousand steps have been completed.

In April 2021, Oras launched a digital hand shower that gives real-time feedback to the user about their water and energy use. The digital hand shower can produce its own energy from water. It is easy to install, and batteries and electricity are not needed.

LED light signals water usage

The digital hand shower is based on long-term research and product development.

“The data is transferred from shower to application via Bluetooth. This gives instant information about each person’s water and energy use compared to the control group,” says Juhani Lempinen, who functions as Product Category Manager in Oras Group’s SMART and digital business.

App enables long-term consumption follow-up and goal setting

“The flow and temperature sensors of the hand shower measure consumption. The digital hand shower immediately informs you of water and energy use during each shower. This enables consumer behavior to be influenced,” Lempinen continues.

The price of a digital hand shower is just over 160 euros, but a family of three will save the shower’s price in just one year, Lempinen says in summary. The 160 euros contain only 20–30 euros for water, and more than 100 euros are used to heat the water.

“There is no water shortage in majority of the European countries where we operate, but we try to alert consumers especially about hot water consumption. Heating water requires a lot of energy, and this energy goes directly down the drain,” says Lempinen.

During product development, Oras Group examines consumer behaviors in detail. Lempinen tells us how consumer habits and usage behavior were changed without strict measures.

“We don’t want to be forced to save water. Oras enables savings and offers the tools for it, but each person decides themselves whether to use them. A sports bracelet is a similar kind of tool,” says Oras Group’s CTO Janne Rautavuori.

“There would certainly be savings if we cut the water pipes and replaced them with zinc buckets. This obviously isn’t what we want. The best way is to reduce losses and thereby create savings. By doing this, we will optimally achieve our sustainable development goals,” explains Rautavuori.

A product wanted by consumers was produced with extensive cooperation and development efforts.

“People want to set goals for themselves. If I consumed 2 kWh in the shower today, I want to consume only 1.8 kilowatts tomorrow."

Oras Group has studied consumption behaviors. Savings were not achieved by force, at least in the long run. Instead, a digital hand shower delivers results.

“The digital hand shower enables immediate feedback to users about how much water and energy they’ve used during their shower, Rautavuori says.

“When the result can be seen right away, we automatically start saving water and energy. A digital hand shower can save up to 30 per cent, but more than 20 per cent is common.

The carbon footprint of products must be decreased during their entire lifecycle

Products must be ecological to consume a minimum of water and energy during their lifecycle. This is achieved for example with digitalization or various cloud services. The carbon footprint from production is only about 10 per cent during the product’s entire lifecycle. The remaining 90 per cent of the carbon footprint are created when faucets are used.

Saving energy and water must be made easy

Consumers are aware of their water and energy consumption and carbon footprint, but they lack the will to consume less. In addition, water and energy savings must be correctly “sold and marketed” to consumers. Oras wants to encourage consumers to a sustainable lifestyle and commit them to it by offering sophisticated products and services. Responsibility and sustainable development must be the objective in all subareas and daily activities.

The new digital hand shower is an example of practical tools that affect water consumption and the carbon footprint.

Sustainable materials

Materials must be safe, recyclable and ecological. Impurities must not dissolve into the water from faucet materials. Oras Group assumes responsibility for the product for its entire lifecycle, starting with ideas, design, implementation and use.

The use of materials, energy and water is thus minimized. This concerns not only the products themselves, but also packaging.

Sustainable development expertise at Oras Group is among the best in the world. Saving water and energy has been in the company’s DNA since the 1980s. Oras product novelties continue their success path in international design competitions: the freshly launched Oras Stela washbasin faucet and the brand new digital hand shower Oras Hydractiva Digital both receive the coveted Red Dot Award 2021 in the Product Design category for outstanding design quality. Both cases show how sustainability, conscious use of water and refined design go hand in hand.

The special feature of the digital hand shower Oras Hydractiva Digital, which has meanwhile won several awards, lies in the detail: An integrated display shows the current water and energy consumption in real time during the shower. Hot water is one of the biggest energy consumers and sources of CO2 emissions from private households. More than two-thirds of this is a result of daily showering. Experiences with Oras products are becoming increasingly digital, and this now also applies to the view of over 1,000 fittings on the company website. Here, a large part of the faucet range can be viewed from all sides, interactively and photorealistically in 3D mode, using augmented reality technology (AR) or virtual reality (VR).

By selecting "3D" on the respective product page, users automatically enter the virtual product world. The various functions can be selected in a user-friendly and intuitively self-explanatory manner. In this way, the quality of product information is raised to a new level for all users - at the cutting edge of technology. An expansion of access via a QR code on the product packaging will be implemented by mid-2021. The 3D mode with AR function will also be available via an app in the future.

Viruses, bacteria or germs - every person is exposed to a wide variety of pathogens every day. If these enter the body via the nose, mouth or eyes, they can lead to infections. The simplest and most effective protection: regular and thorough hand washing. Touchless fittings, such as the modern automatic faucets for the private, public and semi-public sectors from Oras, improve additional safety and ensure maximum hygiene.

Hygienic and strong in design at the same time: the Oras Electra.

Around 80 percent of all infectious diseases are transmitted via the hands with which we - consciously or unconsciously - touch our face an average of 16 times per hour.* Correct hand hygiene can thus significantly reduce the risk of even absorbing pathogens via the mucous membranes or passing them on to others. The hands should be carefully cleaned for about 30 seconds, lathered with soap and washed with clear water. KARI LEHTINEN APPOINTED CEO OF ORAS GROUP

Kari Lehtinen has been appointed President and CEO of Oras Group, and the appointment will be effective as from January 1, 2019. Oras Group’s current CEO, Markus Lengauer, will continue in the role until the end of 2018. According to a mutual agreement and to ensure continuity, Lengauer will assume a new role as a Board member of Oras Group as of January 2019.

Oras Group Board of Directors has appointed Kari Lehtinen the new President & CEO of Oras Group, and the new position will be effective as from January 1, 2019. Lehtinen has previously worked as the President & CEO of the insulation solution manufacturer Paroc Group, and has an extensive international management background in the building industry.

The current President & CEO of Oras Group, Markus Lengauer, will continue in his role until the end of 2018. From January 1, 2019, according to a mutual agreement, Lengauer will assume a new role as a member of the company’s Board. Lehtinen will join the Oras Group Executive Committee as Deputy CEO on November 5, 2018, and he will immediately begin working alongside Markus Lengauer to become familiar with the company’s operations, personnel and customers.

As Finland turns 100, it is time to celebrate Finnish work and the success stories of it. Dr Markus Lengauer appointed President and CEO of Oras Group

The Oras Group (Oras Ltd.) Board of Directors has decided to appoint Dr Markus Lengauer the President and CEO of Oras Group. In this capacity Markus will also be appointed the sole Managing Director of HANSA Armaturen GmbH and selected other Oras Group subsidiaries. He will officially assume the positions as of 1 November 2017.
Dr Markus Lengauer, 52, is an Austrian citizen living with his family in Sankt Barbara, Austria. Since 2013, Markus has worked as an independent consultant in the HVAC industry. Before that, he looks back at a long and successful career at Rettig ICC, leading to the CEO position. Markus holds a Doctor’s degree in Engineering from the Technical University of Vienna. Since 2015, Markus has served on the Board of Directors at Uponor Corporation as member and member of the Audit Committee.

Annika Paasikivi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors: “I have worked together with Markus on the Uponor Board for two years. He knows the dynamics of our industry inside out and fully understands the implications on Oras Group. Advanced solutions: Oras introduces a mobile app for the maintenance of electronic faucets

Oras is constantly striving to develop innovative and advanced solutions to make the work of sanitary installers and building technicians as simple as possible. Technology and digitalization are coming to homes in the form of new product features and applications that make professional’s work easier. With the new Oras App, it is now possible to quickly adjust the settings of the faucet to altered user requirements and to service them at the touch of a button.

Until now, making changes to factory setting of electronic faucets has been done manually by using a magnetic key and counting the number of blinking lights to determine the desired program for each faucet individually. With the new app, not only can these adjustments be made more quickly without even touching the faucet, the installer has also access to more product information and settings than ever before.

"In the future, digitalization will also affect the work of professionals as products become more electronic: for example, the use and maintenance of faucets and showers can be controlled more and more by smart applications and phones," says Chief Technology Officer at Oras, Janne Rautavuori.

The Oras App is initially compatible with three variants from the new Oras Electra line and the sensory-operated Oras Medipro Touchless variants. The user of the app can optimally tailor the functions of the electronic faucet to the individual preferences of the customer.

"The new application allows you to monitor water consumption, battery life, and the number of automatic rinse cycles. It also makes it possible to significantly reduce the time spent on changing faucet settings," Rautavuori continues.

In addition, this new B2B application facilitates and speeds up the maintenance reporting. Thanks to its built-in feature, reports such as product information and faucet settings can be sent directly via email.

"The new app is a natural part of the Oras brand and the first step towards the new types of mobile apps and advanced features for our various target groups," Rautavuori says.

How does it work?

To start monitoring and adjusting the faucets, the installer or technician first must activate the Bluetooth® connection on their mobile device. The installed Bluetooth compatible Oras products will be automatically found and registered by the app – within a range of up to ten meters.

Once the desired product has been selected, information about its individual settings appears on the display of the smartphone* or the tablet**. Taking Oras Electra as an example, the display shows the amount of water consumed, the remaining battery life, the time until next automatic flush and a calendar feature for automatic flush, among other things.

With an authorized password access, installers and technicians can also e.g. program the water flow time, the intervals between and the duration of the automatic rinsing function, the sensor sensitivity and distance. In addition, not only is it possible to reset and create settings, one can also easily transfer them to other faucets– with just a few finger movements.

The Oras app can be downloaded for free as an iOS version on the App Store and as an Android version on the Google Play Store.

The new Oras 3S-Installation system renews faucet installation

Oras launches a unique three-step installation system that facilitates installers’ daily work. From now on faucet installation is safe, quick and easy – and can be done even using only one hand.

Oras 3S-Installation system has been developed to help, quicken and ease the work of installation professionals.

New Oras 3S-Installation system offers a totally new installation solution with an innovative fixing part and a flexible installation key. Quick three step fastening and easy-to-use tools make installers’ work easier and enable more faucet installations per day.

Oras 3S-Installation system is based on the new integrated structure. Instead of having separate parts, in 3S all the parts are integrated together.
Installation of faucets have been done in the same, traditional way for years. The plumbers often need to work in uncomfortable positions and to screw the fixing nuts with several tools and turns.

Benefits work in many ways

The new 3S-Installation System benefits professionals in many ways. System enables flexible mounting for stainless steel sinks and ceramic wash basins from 1 mm up to 40 mm thickness. Supporting plate helps installation to thin wash basins. Innovative fixing part is quick and easy to install, which lowers costs and brings efficiency since more installations can be done per day

The existing Oras Apollo product range has been extended with new handshowers and shower sets. New design and improved performance makes Oras Apollo a universal, contemporary and competitive shower solution.

Allas Sea Pool is open - Oras as a partner

Allas Sea Pool was opened in the heart of Helsinki by the Market Square on September 1st. The unique complex brings together swimming, saunas, urban culture and sustainable development in the best possible place in Helsinki. In addition to the swimming courses, it is also possible to do yoga, pilates and zumba at Allas. Concerts and other events like full moon swims, Sauna Talks -forums and DJ-nights will also be organized at Allas Sea Pool year-round. With its land and sea areas, Allas can fit 3,500 visitors at a time, which allows as many as 10,000 visitors per day.

Allas Sea Pool will be completely finished in the spring of 2017, when the main building is completed. The finished main building include couple of roof terraces, á la carte restaurant, The Baltic Sea Center, a shop and conference rooms. The Baltic Sea Center introduces the life forms and the protection of the Baltic Sea, Archipelago and much more! The Cleantech Showroom will hold professional seminars as well as cleantech-oriented experiential content based on changing themes.

Oras showers at Oras Swan 50th Anniversary Regatta

Oras Group was the main partner of Oras Swan 50th Anniversary Regatta, the largest maritime event in Finland this year. The regatta was held in the end of July in the sunny Turku archipelago, with over 100 Nautor's Swan sailing yachts from different countries around the Baltic Sea.

The regatta was a success, with thousands of visitors in the area. Oras had an excellent visibility around the event with a brand new Oras shower container, a spa-like mobile showroom, where people could actually take showers. The showers attracted a lot of attention and interest towards our products, and were actively in use.

Sailing as a sustainable sport relating to water was one of the reasons for Oras to participate in the regatta. Swan yachts are known for their high quality and many of them are equipped with Oras faucets.
